Tur Dal & Kodo Millet Khichdi.
Do you like Khichdi? I know most of us don’t and it is considered as meal for sick 😐. However, we love our khichdi for it’s taste and comfort. I recently made this khichdi and replaced rice with Kodo millet. Millets are extremely nutritious and gluten free. Added veggies like spinach, carrots and peas in it. Gave a tadka of ghee, zeera, red chilli powder and hing. Served it with beetroot raita, salad , papad and this made a perfect healthy, delicious meal for us. Sharing a detailed recipe here for those who wish to try 💚
Soak Tur Dal and Kodo Millets in 1:1 ratio for atleast 4 hours. I soaked it overnight since I planned to make it in the morning. Chop 1 onion and 1 tomato, few garlic cloves and a piece of ginger.Take ghee in a pressure cooker and add chopped garlic, ginger. Let it cook for 2 min at low flame and then add onions and tomatoes. Also, add salt, turmeric powder. Let this cook till the mixture becomes slightly mushy. Now add 1/2 cup of chopped carrots, 1/2 cup chopped Spinach leaves and 1/2 cup peas. Cook till the vegetables become soft. Add 1 tsp of garam masala and 1tsp of sambar powder. Now add the soaked Dal and Millets. Pressure cook it for 15-20 min. Later, adjust the consistency with some water if you feel.
In a pan take ghee (as much as you want) Add asafoetida and zeera, let it crackle, now add red chilli powder if you wish. Add this tadka to the khichdi and give it a mix. You can garnish it with few corriander leaves as well. Serve hot with your choice of accompaniments 😊
